Scott of the Antarctic

The race for the South Pole was perhaps one of the most difficult challenges known to man, to win the race explorers had to battle across the formidable Antarctica; a massive continent with over 99% of it covered in ice, very windy, mountainous and extremely cold it is perhaps the most inhospitable place on earth.

Due to its location and severe conditions exploration of Antarctica didn't begin in earnest until the 1890's. In 1901 - 1904, in his ship Discovery, a British naval captain Robert Falcon Scott (1868 – 1912) became the first man to explore Antarctica extensively by land.
