Compsognathus was a small bird like carnivorous theropod that lived around 155 to 145 million years ago during the late Jurassic period. Compsognathus walked on two long hind legs and could run relative fast. Its diet included insects as well as small lizards and other small animals.

Compsognathus means "Pretty jaw" Fossils were first discovered in  Bavaria, Germany by Dr. Oberndorfer in the late 1850's. It was named by Johann Wagner in 1859.
