Triceratops

Height : 2 m (6.5 ft)

Length: 30 m (9.1 ft)

Weight : 10 tonnes (9 tons)

Triceratops was a vegetarian that lived around 72 to 65 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period.

Triceratops was similar in appearance to a Rhinoceros. It had a large bony frill at the back of its head, one horn projecting from its snout above its beak and and two long horn projecting from its forehead.

Like all Ornithischians Triceratops had a toothless beak for stripping tough vegetation off plants, and lots of teeth in is jaws for chewing it. Triceratops probably lived in herds grazing off low lying vegetation growing on the plains.

Contemporary predators would have included Tyrannosaurs rex.

Triceratops means "three-horned face". It was named by Othniel Marsh in 1889. Fossils have been found in Western Canada and Western USA.
