Apatosaurus

Height :  4 m (13ft)

Length: 24 m (80 ft)

Weight :  32.5 tonnes (35.5 tons)

Apatosaurus was a vegetarian Sauropod that lived around 155 to 145 million years ago during the late Jurassic period. Apatosaurus' nostrils were located on the top of its head, an unusual feature that prompted many early palaeontologists to think that Apatosaurus lived in water to help support the weight of the large body; this is now known to be untrue.

Apatosaurus means "deceptive lizard" and was named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1877. Apatosaurus was previously also known as Brontosaurus, meaning "Thunder lizard", but this name is no longer used. Incomplete fossils have been found in Mid Western states of the USA, North America.
